Kasur was formed in 1976 by detaching Kasur and Chunian tehsils
from Lahore district. Kasur is situated at a distance of about 55
kilometres towards South of Lahore on the Lahore Ferozepur Road.
The district has Indian Territory on the South and East across the
river Satluj, Lahore district on the North, Okara district on South-West
and Sheikhupur district on North-West. District Kasur is spread
over an area of 3,995 square kilometres and is sub divided in the
three tehsils of Kasur, Chunian and Pattoki. Apart from tehsil headquarters,
other important towns in the district are Mustafabad, Raja Jhang,
Kot Radha Kishan, Khudian, Pattoki, Kanganpur, Bhaipheru, etc.
The climate
of district Kasur is hot in summer and comparatively cold in winter.
May and June are the hottest months, when temperature goes upto
44ºC. Water logging and salinity has effected a large area
of the district making the under ground water brackish.
The district
was taken over by PRSP on 15th of Jan, 2005. There are 81 Basic
Health Units and 23 ZCDs / GRDs.
